Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N Marie Wilson counters M K Stalin’s claims, citing a GST growth recovery to 3.2% in October and 8% after settlement under the TVK government.
TN GST Growth Reaches 8% After Settlement

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N Marie Wilson has rejected DMK chief M K Stalin’s claims that the state’s GST revenue growth has fallen sharply. He said that Tamil Nadu’s GST collection has improved since the TVK government came to power, moving from negative growth to a positive growth of 3.2 per cent in October. He added that the growth stood at 8 per cent after settlement.
Wilson credited the improvement to the new policies and reforms introduced by Chief Minister G Joseph Vijay. He said the changes were part of a planned process and that their results would take time to show. He also criticised former Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu for relying on old GST figures and focusing only on negative aspects while ignoring the latest growth numbers.
Earlier on Monday, Stalin and Thennarasu criticised the TVK government, accusing it of pushing Tamil Nadu towards an economic slowdown. They claimed that the state was facing falling tax revenues, a lack of policy decisions and the shifting of major industrial projects to neighbouring states.
Stalin also claimed that Tamil Nadu’s GST revenue growth had fallen to a record low under the TVK government, remaining far below the national average of 22.9 per cent recorded in October.
