The Annual Information Statement is a complete summary of financial transactions you have done for a particular year often known as AIS. It includes information such as your income, investment and taxes paid.

It also includes information on capital gains from listed securities, dividend income, and interest from banks, the post office, and other sources to help taxpayers file their forms more easily. The AIS is available to all registered income taxpayers via the compliance portal, which can be accessed via the e-filing website.

What is AIS?

The Annual Information Statement is a comprehensive view of information for a taxpayer displayed in Form 26AS. The Annual Information Statement (Form 26AS) provides a full snapshot of a taxpayer’s information. Taxpayers can give feedback on the information displayed in AIS. Under each part (TDS, SFT, Other information), AIS displays both the reported value and the updated value (the value after taking into account taxpayer feedback).

How to View and Download Annual Information Statement?

Through the following steps, you can easily view and download your AIS:

1. Login: Go to the official income tax e-filing portal. Log in using your PAN number and password.

2. Navigate to AIS: After logging in to the portal, click on the ‘Annual Information Statement (AIS)’ on the dashboard. This will redirect to the AIS portal and then click the AIS tile to see the Annual Information Statement.

3. Download: Click on the AIS link then view and download the statement. The statement is available in PDF format.

What is the Password to Open AIS?

When you download your AIS, it comes as a password-protected PDF file. To gain access to the file, enter the PAN in lowercase, followed by either the date of incorporation or formation for non-individual taxpayers or the date of birth for individual taxpayers in the format ddmmyyyy, without spaces.

For example, if your PAN is ABCDE1234F and your date of birth is 1st January 1990, your password will be abcde1234a01011990.

How to Track Activity History in AIS?

Your AIS has a feature that allows you to track your activity history. Here’s how you can do it:

Track your activity history in AIS by clicking the Activity History icon on the homepage. You will be given an overview of activities on the AIS functionality. Each performed activity will be assigned a system-generated ID (Activity ID), and this tab will provide the Activity date, Activity description and detail.

1. Real-Time Updates: AIS now updates in real-time. This gives you the latest information on your financial activities.

2. Detailed Insights: It provides a more detailed breakdown of your income taxes paid and investments, making it easier to file ITR.

3. Error Reporting: If you find mistakes in your AIS. There’s a feature to report these errors directly through the portal.
