Woman Tax Consultant Held for Rs 66 Lakh Fraud Using Fake Income Tax Receipts:

Tambaram police arrest a woman accused of cheating customers of around Rs 66 lakh using fake Income Tax receipts.
Tax Consultant’s Fake Receipt Scam

Tambaram Crime Branch police have arrested a 39-year-old woman named Nadia for cheating customers by collecting money for Income Tax and GST payments using fake receipts.
Nadia, who lives in Tambaram, runs a private firm called Genun Tax on Kakan Street. She had been helping customers file their Income Tax and GST returns. She had completed a BCom degree.
Victor Gnanaraj, 38, from Kovur near Porur, approached Nadia with his brother after they sold a house they jointly owned. Since the property sale had to be included in their Income Tax records, they gave Nadia their financial details, PAN card numbers and OTPs.
Nadia told the brothers that they had to pay Rs 3.65 lakh as TDS. She further assured them that the Income Tax Department would deposit the money into their bank accounts before the end of the financial year. The brothers paid her the amount, believing her, and got a stamped receipt from her.
But the money was not refunded as promised. The brothers asked Nadia, but she was unable to give them a proper explanation.
The brothers then went to the police and filed a complaint. During investigation, police found that the Income Tax receipt given to them was bogus. Nadia had actually paid only Rs 365 to the Income Tax Department. She then edited the receipt to show Rs 3.65 lakh, added a fake Income Tax seal and gave it to the brothers.
Police searched Nadia's office and seized several seals, computers and fake receipts. During the investigation, Nadia admitted that she had collected money from several customers in a similar way.
Police suspect that Nadia may have cheated customers of around Rs 66 lakh over the past five years. She was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
