Zomato hikes platform fees amid Rising Competition, And Fuel Costs
Food delivery giant Zomato has once again increased the platform fee it charges users for every order. As per the latest update on its app, the fee has gone up by Rs 2.40, bringing the total to Rs 14.90 per order (before GST). Earlier, customers were paying Rs 12.50 for the same.
This is not the first time Zomato has increased its platform fee. The last increase happened last time in September 2025. “It keeps gradually increasing.
Meanwhile, its close competitor, Swiggy, is charging around Rs14.99 per order, including taxes. Both companies usually keep their pricing quite similar, so when one makes a change, the other often follows.
But now, the market is becoming more interesting. A new player, Rapido, has entered the food delivery in Bengaluru with its service called "Ownly". Rapido says it won’t charge any extra platform fees from customers or restaurants and will only take a delivery fee. This could attract users who are tired of paying multiple charges on every order.
The increase in platform fees is also happening at a time when fuel prices are going up. When petrol and diesel become expensive, delivery costs also increase. This affects not only the companies but also restaurants and delivery partners who depend on these platforms.
For customers, this simply means they will have to pay a little more for each order. Even though new companies are entering the market and competition is growing, the overall cost for users is still increasing.
