Ministry of MSME hosts a Mega Summit on Plastics Recycling and Waste Management

The Union Minister of State for MSME today inaugurated the International Summit on Plastics Recycling & Waste Management, which will be held in New Delhi from the 4th to the 5th of March, 2022, and is being organised by the Ministry of MSME in collaboration with The All-India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA).

The Ministry of MSME has announced two unique projects, ‘Sambhav’ and ‘Svavlamban,’ to promote entrepreneurship among young people, particularly in aspirational districts across the country.

The Mega International Summit focuses on “Know Your Waste and How Recycling Is the Right Thing to Do, Which Must Be Done Correctly.” The two-day Summit in New Delhi will bring together eminent speakers from the government and industry, both national and international, to discuss the challenges and prospects in the plastics industry. More than 350 MSME representatives from throughout the country will attend the summit in person, and more than 1000 MSMEs will attend electronically. In addition, worldwide representatives from other countries will participate electronically in the mega summit.

During the opening session, Union Minister of State Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma stated, “This Mega Event is an effective platform to bring together stakeholders and experts to discuss the impact and possible solutions for MSMEs and open new business opportunities in the Plastics industry and the Recycling Sector with a strong belief in the vision of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.”

As part of the Iconic Week Celebrations under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Ministry of MSME is conducting Sambhav- National Level Awareness Program (NLAP) in Webinar Mode in 1300 colleges across the country through its field offices from 28.02.2022 to 31.03.2022 and organising more than 200 Nukkad Natak in 46 Aspirational Districts under a Special Drive called Svavlamban to promote entrepreneurship among youth population and spreading

Shri B.B. Swain, Secretary (MSME), said during the Summit, “Recycling plastic is one of the most important steps towards innovation and sustainability in this business.” Given its global potential and job opportunities, the plastics industry will play a critical part in the success of the Government of India‘s “Make in India” initiative.

Emphasizing the importance of plastics and recycling – “AIPMA have organised various virtual events with MSME-DIs of different states on Plastic Waste Management and Recycling Technologies to generate awareness and to bring our members up to speed on Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) and New Plastic Waste Management Policies,” said Mr. Kishore P. Sampat, President of AIPMA.

“A sustainable, plastic waste management depends on the ability to recover and recycle plastics profitably,” said Shri Arvind Mehta, Chairman of the AIPMA Governing Council. There is enormous potential for formalising this sector and dramatically enhancing recycling quality and capacity. This mega conference would provide numerous business prospects for MSME’s in the country’s recycling and waste management sectors.”
