NEET UG 2022: Upper Circuit of Age Limit Removed for all Candidates of NEET UG Exam

The National Medical Commission (NMC) stated on Wednesday that the maximum age limit for the National Eligibility Cumulation Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2022 has been eliminated. Candidates in the general category had to be 25 years old, while those in the SC, ST, and OBC categories had to be 30 years old.

In a letter to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the NEET tests, NMC secretary Dr Pulkesh Kumar stated the decision was made at the NMC’s fourth meeting in October of last year. The letter said, “As a result, the information bulletin may be notified accordingly.”

The decision to remove the maximum age limit for taking NEET UG was made “with consent from the chairperson of NMC (Dr Suresh Chandra Sharma),” according to Dr Kumar.

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, announced on Twitter, “The National Medical Commission has decided to eliminate the upper age limit for taking the NEET-UG exam. The decision would be extremely beneficial to prospective doctors and will contribute to the country’s medical education being strengthened.”

“The decision will greatly benefit prospective doctors and will further aid in boosting medical education in the country,” he wrote on Twitter.

NEET is India’s single entrance test for MBBS, BDS, and certain other associated medical programmes. Around 15 lakh students take the exam each year.

The test was conducted in September of last year. The date and timing for NEET 2022 are yet to be announced by the NTA.

The test has also been utilised for admission to BSc Nursing and BSc Health Sciences programmes since 2021.
