Tax Evasion of more than Rs 1,000 crore: IT Dept. Raids on 20 Properties; Know Details

A unit of the Income Tax Department from Lucknow conducted searches in five states on the factories and premises of BSP MP from Saharanpur, Haji Fazlur Rehman. Officials said searches were underway in 20 locations across Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

According to a source, MP’s company ALM Industries and a factory in Saharanpur, as well as outlets in Dera Bassi, Punjab, and Kolkata, were searched. The BSP MP is accused of evading Rs 1,000 crore in taxes and forming shell companies to divert funds. According to IT sources, the searches will continue in the coming days. Since Wednesday morning, several ITBP units have been stationed outside the BSP MP’s headquarters and factories.

IT sleuths and ITBP personnel arrived at the MP’s residence and meat factory around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. As a result, they built a fence around the house and the meat factory in the district’s Gagalheri neighbourhood. Neither the MP’s family nor his staff were permitted to leave or enter the MP’s residence or factory during the raid.

According to sources, raids were also conducted at the MP’s other residence and meat factories in Delhi and Punjab. The BSP has accused the ruling BJP of political vendetta in response to the raid. The BJP’s actions against opposition leaders are beyond our comprehension. “The Modi government is targeting us all,” said Imran Masood, the BSP’s conveyor for western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Masood recently defected from Congress to the BSP.

Meanwhile, the presence of heavy gorges and a fleet of vehicles caused panic in the area, and a large crowd gathered outside the BSP MP’s residence and factory. People dispersed only after being informed that it was a routine procedure of the IT department.
