The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) team raided a McDonald’s outlet in Lucknow a city in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday as part of the state government’s latest crackdown on fake Halal-certified products.

FSDA officials investigated many food items during the investigation and discovered Halal-certified products, especially packaged wraps.

An investigation has been launched against McDonald’s, and officials intend to fine the fast food chain up to Rs 3 lakhs in connection with the sale of Halal-certified products, which is currently prohibited in the state.

Meanwhile, the food safety authority seized all Halal-certified products discovered at a McDonald’s outlet during the raid.

This comes just a few days after the Uttar Pradesh government banned the production, storage, distribution, and sale of halal-certified food, medicines, and cosmetics in the state.

Officials stated that the prohibition was issued in the interest of public health and to avoid confusion.

“In the interest of public health, the production, storage, distribution, and sale of halal-certified edible items are prohibited in Uttar Pradesh with immediate effect,” according to an order issued by the Uttar Pradesh Food Commissioner.

However, Halal-certified foods produced for export are free from the ban.

The government also threatened individuals who violated the ban with harsh penalties.

In a similar action, an FSDA team raided Lucknow’s Sahara Mall and investigated various products offered there, including cold drinks, meat, and dry fruits, to determine whether they were Halal-certified.

Following the operation, eight companies were discovered peddling Halal-certified products, and cases were filed against them.
