The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Imposter posing as CBI official in a case registered against him.

A case was filed against a Constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from District Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) on claims of impersonation as a CBI agent, extortion, forgery, and other offences. The accused was on deputation at the CBI in July 2022 and was prematurely returned to his parent organisation, RPF, in March 2023.

It was alleged that after being repatriated from the CBI, he used a duplicate CBI Identity Card to impersonate a CBI official posted in the CBI (Head Office), Delhi, and sought the assistance of the Naya Mandi Police Station in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, to serve a forged Notice purportedly issued by the CBI in a case to a Muzaffarnagar businessman. It was also alleged that the accused demanded money from a businessman in order to obtain relief in the CBI case.

It was also stated that the accused threatened the businessman to reach an agreement with another individual in a land dispute that was being litigated between them.
