Noida Police imposes Gangsters Act against 33 in GST Fraud Case

The Noida police stated on Monday that charges under the Gangsters Act have been filed against 33 of the 45 culprits arrested so far in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) fraud case.

Police have filed a new FIR against the 33 suspects under the Gangsters Act, according to a senior officer.

Police claimed to have busted a gang suspected of carrying out a Rs.10,000 crore GST fraud on June 1, 2023. The operation included registering thousands of companies using stolen or false identities and using these organizations to generate express-way bills and to avail input tax credits from the government.

A total of 45 people have been arrested for alleged involvement in the fraud, including the residents of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Sirsa (Haryana), Jaipur (Rajasthan), and Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh).

“An FIR has been lodged at the Sector 20 police station under relevant sections of the Gangster Act against 33 individuals. The Act has been invoked to attach the accused’s properties obtained fraudulently by inflicting damages to the exchequer by claiming a fake Input Tax Credit worth Rs.10,000 crore,” said Shakti Avasthy, deputy commissioner of police (crime).

Suspects arrested on Monday hail from various locations in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.
