Fake GST Officers Steal Rs 29 Lakh from Accountant in Panipat

An accountant named Sukhnaam, who works at a factory in Noorwala, Panipat, was allegedly robbed of Rs. 29 lakh on Tuesday night near the Samalkha bypass on the Panipat–Khatima highway. Two men pretending to be GST officers are accused of having taken the money from him.

Sukhnaam told the police that he and his car driver were on their way to Panipat, Uttar Pradesh, from Meerut with money.

As per Sukhnaam, when they reached the Samalkha bypass, two men came out of a car and tried to stop their car. The two men told Sukhnaam that they were GST Officers. One of the two men got into his car and accused them of GST fraud, while the other grabbed the bag full of cash. They were then told to go to the nearby police station. Sukhnaam further said that there were more people in the suspects’ car, which had “Indian Govt” written on it.

After the incident was reported, police from Samalkha and the nearby Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh rushed to the spot. Senior officers, including UP Deputy Inspector General Abhishek Singh, Shamli SP Ramsewak Gautam, and ASP Santosh Kumar, are investigating the case.
