MMCCI Urges Finance Minister to Extend ITR Audit Deadline Amid Floods and Festivities

The Malda Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (MMCCI) president, Ujjal Saha, sent a representation to the finance minister. He requested Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to extend the due date for filing Income Tax Returns (Audit) for AY 2025-26.

He also added that both South and North Bengal are facing floods. Heavy rain in North Bengal and the Northeast has caused landslides and damaged many homes.

The letter stated, “Considering these challenges, and in the interest of supporting MSME entrepreneurs and traders, we request the government to direct the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) to extend the filing deadline to 30th November 2025.”

Ujjal Saha further mentioned that October is packed with major festivals, including Durga Puja, Dussehra, Laxmi Puja, Dhanteras, Kali Puja, Diwali, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath Puja. Several days during October have been declared as state holidays which will lead to bank closures and delays in tax deposits by assessors.

The MMCCI further explained that the extension would provide time for traders, businessmen, and MSME entrepreneurs to comply with audit requirements without excessive burden.

The Chamber lastly requested the finance minister’s kind attention, support, and prompt action on the matter.
