GSTN Introduces New Section on GST Portal for Imported Goods Details in IMS

In an effort to improve convenience for taxpayers, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has recently introduced a new feature on the IMS functionality on the GST Portal. As per an advisory dated October 30th, 2025, issued by the GSTN, the GST portal is now introducing a new field for “Import of Goods” in the IMS.

The GST Portal had earlier introduced the Invoice Management System (IMS), which allowed the taxpayers to accept, reject, or keep pending their individual record uploaded by their supplier through GSTR-1/1A/IFF.

With this new section for the details of Import of Goods in IMS, if a business is importing goods, including the Special Economic Zone (SEZ), the Bill of Entry (BoE) they file will be made available in the IMS System. Businesses can then accept, reject, or keep the BoE pending.

If the taxpayers do not take any action, the BoE will be automatically treated as accepted. Based on this, the system will generate a draft GSTR-2B for the taxpayer by the 14th of the next month. The GSTN has also issued a detailed advisory regarding the new changes.
