ICAI Releases Handbook on Applicability of GST on Agricultural Sector

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has recently released a “Handbook on Applicability of GST on the Agricultural Sector.” This new publication helps to understand how the GST rule applies to agriculture and related activities.

The GST regime, which came into effect on July 1, 2017, replaced several indirect taxes with a single and unified tax system. Even though the GST system is based on the principle of tax neutrality, the agriculture sector still received distinct policy consideration because of its important role in the economy.

The ICAI released this handbook to address the interpretation challenges regarding the taxability of agricultural activities. This handbook covers important topics for agricultural activities like registration, classification, taxability of goods and services, reverse charge mechanism, ITC, etc.

The handbook is valuable material for policymakers, stakeholders, members, and industry professionals who are associated with the agricultural sector.

Refer to the official handbook PDF for more information.
