Prime Minister Internship Scheme 2026 Update: Final-Year Students Now Eligible for Paid Internships

The inclusion of final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students from the date of the order in the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is an important milestone in the professional career progressions of the students in India. Thanks to the latest update of April 22, 2026, students will now be able to participate in internships during the final year of their degree.

The decision taken in consultation with the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, will positively impact thousands of students across the country in securing well-structured, remunerative professional internships with leading organisations on a national level. Allowing students to participate in internships during the academic year will ensure that students are industry-ready to a much greater extent.

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) allows students over the age of 18 and below the age of 25 to apply as finalists. They will have to get the No Objection Certificate from the institute of their concern and apply via the PM-Internship site. The NOC has to be from either the HoD, Principal, Dean, or Placement and Training Officer stating that there is, in fact, no clash with the planned academic activities.

This change is in line with India’s National Education Policy (NEP), which focuses on learning by doing, industry linkages, and relevance to the workforce. With the PMIS Policy, students learn skills, both soft (like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving) and hard, through work-experience-based learning, where internships are the main component. Interns are eligible to earn at least Rs 9,000 per month. Interested students have a choice of over 300 different companies (and industries), ensuring a good fit for all.

Currently, the Third Round of the Pilot Phase has been rolled out, and companies are consistently posting new internship positions. By the time students graduate, it gives them a productive start to a career and increases their chances for future employment, allowing them to experience both work and the culture of a trading market.

Overall, the PMIS is a logical and backwards-integrated shift to make education and work a seamless process. Combining the belt of industry skills with education is what the PMIS is doing for India’s rapidly changing and dynamically diverse workforce, incorporating skills of industry and education into the different generations of India.
