Government Fixes Maximum Price for 580g Jute Bags for April 2026
The Ministry of Textiles, through the Office of the Jute Commissioner in Kolkata, has issued this notification. The Deputy Jute Commissioner has released it on 22 April 2026. The notification comes under Clause 3(6) of the Jute and Jute Textiles Control Order, 2016. It defines the price, validity period, and quality rules for jute bags.
Purpose of the Notification
This notification sets the maximum ex-factory price for 580-gram jute bags. It applies to both Type A and Type B bags. These are B-Twill Sacking bags without linkage. The main aim is to fix a clear price limit for these bags.
Price Details
The notification states the same price for both types of bags. The price per metric ton is Rs. 206,773.00. The price per 100 bags is Rs. 11,992.84. These prices are valid only for April 2026. All production, purchase, and sale of these bags during this month must follow the fixed rates.
Bag Specifications
The bags must follow strict standards. Their size must be 94 cm by 57 cm. Each bag must weigh 580 grams. They must comply with BIS Specification IS: 16186:2014. They must also carry proper identification markings as required by current instructions.
Marking and Quality Requirements
Each bag must have specific markings. It must display the emblem approved by the Office of the Jute Commissioner. The name of the manufacturing mill must be printed on it. BIS certification marking is also required. The bags must meet the minimum breaking strength as per BIS standards. The fixed price does not include GST. The buyer must pay GST separately in addition to the ex-factory price.
