Oil Companies using ITR data to warn on LPG Subsidy: Read More

Oil companies like Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited are now sending warning messages to LPG users.

The government has made subsidy checks stricter. If the yearly taxable income of the customer or their husband/wife is more than Rs 10 lakh, the LPG subsidy can be stopped permanently unless the customer replies within 7 days.

Earlier, subsidy eligibility mostly depended on self-declaration by customers. But now oil companies are directly checking LPG customer details with Income Tax Department records. If tax records show income above Rs 10 lakh, the person may lose the subsidy benefit.

Main Objective of this Step

The government says this step is meant to make sure subsidies go only to lower-income families and people covered under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

What to do if you get the warning message

If someone receives this warning message and feels the information is wrong, you must follow the following steps:

  1. Quickly contact the company.
  2. Complaints can be made through:
  • Toll-free number 1800-2333-555
  • Company’s grievance portal

3. If no reply is given within 7 days, the subsidy may be stopped permanently.

Delivery Authentication Code System

At the same time, oil companies have also made the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system compulsory for LPG delivery. Now, customers receive a code on their phone, and the cylinder is delivered only after they share this code with the delivery person. This is being done to stop the misuse and illegal diversion of LPG cylinders. However, many fake messages and scams related to DAC codes are also increasing.

Oil Company’s Warning

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited warned customers not to share OTPs or DAC codes through phone calls, WhatsApp, or suspicious links. Genuine HP Gas messages come only from the official sender ID “VM-HPGASC-S”.

For Indane users, experts say customers should first check whether they actually booked a cylinder before trusting any message. Official messages usually come from sender IDs like “VK-INDANE” or “VM-INDANE”. Customers should also verify the booking number, invoice details, and DAC code carefully. The DAC should only be shared when the delivery person reaches the house with the cylinder.

Current Price of LPG Cylinder

Current domestic LPG cylinder prices in some cities are:

  1. Bengaluru: Rs 915.50
  2. Hyderabad: Rs 965
  3. Indore: Rs 941
  4. Raipur: Rs 984.50
  5. Patna: Rs 1002.50
  6. Jaipur: Rs 916.50
  7. Dehradun: Rs 932
  8. Andaman and Nicobar Islands: Rs 989

Commercial 19-kg LPG cylinders are much more expensive and cost above Rs 3,000 in many cities.
