Govt Authorises Regional Labour Commissioners to Recover Social Security Dues Under Social Security Code, 2020
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has announced that the Central Government has appointed certain Regional Labour Commissioners (Central) as Recovery Officers under the Code on Social Security, 2020.
These officers have been granted the authority to recover pending dues related to social security provisions covered under Chapters V and VI of the said Code.
The government has made these appointments in pursuance of its powers granted under sub-section (68) of section 2, read with section 129 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 (36 of 2020). The move has been officially announced through an Official Notification No. S.O. 2445(E), dated May 12, 2026.
According to the notification, different regional labour commissioners will handle recovery matters in their respective regions across India. The Regional Labour Commissioners at the headquarters in New Delhi will have jurisdiction over the entire country. Separate regional offices have also been assigned responsibility for specific states and union territories.
