CBI arrests Income Tax Commissioner in Bribery Case of Rs.10 Lakh The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) held the Principal Commissioner of the Income Tax (Patna and Dhanbad) Department and four others on Tuesday for allegedly accepting Rs.10 lakh in bribes from various tax assessees, according to officials. According to reports, Santosh Kumar, the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, was arrested along with four private individuals - Gurpal Singh, Rajiv Kumar, Ashok Chaurasia and Pranay, during an alleged exchange of unlawful gratification worth Rs.10 Lakh. The CBI charged Kumar in an FIR filed in response to a complaint that he was allegedly asking and accepting bribes from various income tax assessees under his jurisdiction in order to provide undue benefit to them by abusing his official position, according to reports.

A CBI spokesperson said, "It was also alleged that there were numerous conduits who were working for the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax (Patna and Dhanbad)". Following the arrests, the CBI searched approximately 21 locations in Patna, Dhanbad, and Noida, recovering damning documents and items, according to officials. "All accused will be produced before the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Patna, on August 28, 2024," a CBI spokesperson stated.
