CBI Arrests Key Scam Network Agent

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a key agent allegedly involved in the trafficking of Indian citizens to scam compounds in South East Asia. The accused allegedly lured recruits with the promise of lucrative jobs in countries including Myanmar and Cambodia.
According to the investigation, the accused sent at least four people from the Hisar area to scam compounds in 2025. Statements given by the victims revealed that they were deceived and later forced to work under harsh conditions, described as “cyber slavery.”
Some victims had to pay large amounts of money to secure their release and return to India. In some cases, they were allegedly told to find another person to take their place before they could leave the scam compounds.
The CBI has recovered important evidence from a mobile phone seized from the accused. The evidence allegedly shows his links with recruiters operating scam compounds in Myanmar and Cambodia. The agency is also investigating cryptocurrency transactions suspected to be commissions paid to the accused by scam operators.
During interrogation the accused allegedly said that fake job opportunities were advertized on social media platforms like Instagram to lure victims. According to reports, messaging apps, such as Telegram, were used to communicate with recruits and other members of the network.
In December 2025, CBI registered a case against a network of agents involved in trafficking Indians to scam compounds to work under force in cyber related activities. The agency also conducted searches in May and June 2026 at eight locations in four states as part of the same investigation and arrested three other defendants.
