CBI Arrests Two More Suspects in West Bengal Job Scam Probe
The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has arrested two more accused in the alleged teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal, an official said.
According to officials, the CBI detained Tapas Mondal, a key suspect in the West Bengal recruitment scam, on Sunday evening, some two months after he was identified in the second charge-sheet of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is undertaking a parallel investigation in this matter.
Mondal was the president of Bengal's 625 private-run bachelor of education (B.Ed) and bachelor of elementary education (B.El.Ed) colleges and institutions until he was identified in the ED's second charge sheet last December. He has been charged with money laundering by the ED.
Niladri Ghosh, one of the multiple agents who reportedly collected money from job seekers in the areas, was also arrested by the CBI.
The CBI summoned and questioned Mondal many times in Kolkata beginning last year. The ED detained Kuntal Ghosh, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) youth wing leader from Hooghly district, based on his statement, on accusations of soliciting money from job seekers. Shantanu Banerjee, whose residence was raided by the ED, was mentioned as a second TMC leader by Mondal.
"I was always collaborating with the investigators. "I don't know why the CBI arrested me," Mondal told reporters on Sunday evening as he was being brought for the obligatory medical examination before being put into detention.
