Coaching Federation Urges Govt to Cut GST on Coaching Services in Budget 2026 The Coaching Federation of India has requested Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to reduce the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on coaching and extra education services in the upcoming Budget 2026. The Coaching Federation of India, New Delhi, is a professional association for coaching institutes or a training body for professional life/business coaches that has multiple coaching centres all over India. The Coaching Federation of India recently sent a representation on January 28 to the finance minister, through which it sought that GST on coaching be reduced to 5% or removed completely. It said that coaching centres cannot claim much tax refund, so GST becomes an extra burden.

Because of this, coaching institutes add the tax to student fees. This makes parents pay more for their children’s education. Keshav Agrawal, vice president of the Coaching Federation of India, said coaching is no longer optional. With exams such as JEE, NEET, UPSC, CA, and others becoming very important, many middle-class families depend on coaching. The Coaching Federation of India also added that the current GST exemption limit of Rs. 20 lakh is outdated in an era of rising rents, salaries, and operating costs. They suggested increasing this limit to Rs. 1 crore for coaching services. This would help small institutes survive and compete with larger chains.

The Federation added that high GST is pushing some centres to work without registration. It recommends that a more balanced tax structure would enhance tax compliance, and would make education cheaper, and support the National Education Policy 2020. Lastly, they asked the Finance Ministry to hold discussions with stakeholder consultation before the budget is presented on February 1.
