DGGI Detects Rs 5.69 Crore GST Evasion by 13 Hotels, Restaurants in Andhra Pradesh:

The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Visakhapatnam Zonal Unit, has detected GST evasion of around Rs 5.69 crore by 13 hotels and restaurants in Andhra Pradesh.

The businesses were found to have allegedly hidden taxable sales worth about Rs 115 crore. DGGI officials carried out search operations in Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Guntur, Ongole, Nellore, Kurnool and Mandapeta over the past two months.

According to officials, the establishments allegedly showed lower sales in their records than the actual amount collected from customers. Investigators found that some businesses were deleting customer invoices from their billing software to reduce their reported sales and avoid paying the correct amount of GST.

The DGGI is now investigating whether other businesses or wider networks are involved in similar practices. Officials are also increasing checks on billing systems used by hotels and restaurants across Andhra Pradesh to prevent such tax evasion.
