Extend Last Date for Filing Income Tax Returns for FY 2023-24

All Odisha Tax Advocates Association (AOTAA) has requested the Hon’ble Finance Minister of India, Shrimati Nirmala Sitharaman to extend the Last Date for filing Income Tax Returns for FY 2023-24 due to the Non-Functioning of the Income Tax Portal and to give directions to the agency in charge of maintaining the portal to rectify the defects and see that the portal works properly.

The Text of the representation is as follows:

I hope this letter finds you In good health and high spirits. I am writing to bring to your attention the persistent non-functioning of the Income Tax filing portal for the past two weeks. This technical Issue has severely hampered the taxpayers’ ability to complete their Income Tax Returns (ITR) on time.

I request you to Issue necessary directions to the agency In charge of maintaining the portal to rectify the defects and see that the portal works properly.

Given the critical nature of this Issue, I kindly request your esteemed office to consider extending the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for the present financial year. The current deadline being the 31st of July, 2024 is fast approaching and the prolonged downtime of the portal has left many taxpayers unable to file their returns promptly.

An extension would not only alleviate the difficulties faced by taxpayers but also ensure compliance with the tax laws without undue strain. It would also help in avoiding unnecessary penalties and interest for late filing.

I trust that you will understand the gravity of this situation and take prompt action to address it. Your favourable consideration of this request will be highly appreciated by all taxpayers across the nation.
