Income Tax Return is the form in which taxpayers file information about income and tax thereon to the Income Tax Department on an annual basis. There are seven types of Income Tax Return Forms (ITR1 to ITR7). When filing ITR or claiming tax benefits, taxpayers usually need to submit some additional forms along with the main ITR forms. and these forms have various purposes.

Below is the detailed list of the Income Tax Forms that individuals and HUFs should be aware of:

1. Form 10-IEA: Opting/Withdrawing from New Tax Regime (Section 115BAC)

  • This form is filed to select a withdrawal from the new tax regime under Section 115BAC (from AY 2024-25).
  • This form is compulsory for individuals/HUFs with business or professional income.
  • You Can file this form online through the e-filing portal.
  • Optional for salaried/pensioners and they can choose in ITR.
  • You can apply for this form before filing ITR (if opting out or changing regime).

2. Form 10-E: (Section 89(1)) Relief for Arrears or Advance Salary

  • This form is filed to claim relief under Section 89(1) for salary or pension received in arrears or advance.
  • You can apply for this form before filing ITR.
  • Salaried employees and pensioners must file this form.
  • This form reduces the tax burden on past income taxed in the current year.

3. Form 10-IA: Disability Certificate for section 80U/80DD Deduction

  • This form is filed to claim deduction under Section 80U (If the taxpayer has a disability) and Section 80DD (If the taxpayer is maintaining a disabled dependent).
  • Self or 80U, Family member/guardian for 80DD are eligible to file this.
  • You must require a medical form from a medical authority as prescribed.

4. Form 10BA: (Section 80GG) Declaration for Rent Deduction

  • This form is filed to claim a deduction for rent paid when you don’t receive HRA, and Live in a rented house.
  • Salaried or self-employed individuals are eligible to file.
  • Two conditions of the form is, No self-occupied house anywhere and Income less than or equal to Rs 5,00,000/year for full benefit.

5. Form 10BE: (Section 80G or 35) Donation Certificate

  • This form is filed for purpose of: Certificate issued to you (donor) by NGO/trust for donations made.
  • This form is significant for claiming deduction under Section 8G in ITR.
  • This includes Donation amount, the PAN/Aadhaar of the donor, and trust details.

6. Form 10BD: Donation Reporting by Trusts

  • This form is mainly filed by the NGO/trust to report your donation.
  • (Indirectly relevant): If your PAN is not reported, your donation may not reflect in Form 26AS or AIS, and the deduction may be rejected.

7. Form 12BB: Investment Declaration to Employer

  • This form is file to the Declaration of tax-saving investments and expenses like 80C, 80D, HRA, LTA etc.
  • This form helps employers deduct lower TDS.
  • Salaried employees give it to the employer.
  • Gives during Financial year, usually by January-February.
