Good News: Now you can update address in Aadhaar online with consent of Head of Family

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has implemented a user-friendly facility to assist residents in updating their address in Aadhaar online with the consent of the Head of Family (HoF).

The HoF-based online address update in Aadhaar will be of great assistance to the resident’s relative(s) who don’t have supporting documents in their own name to update address in their Aadhaar, such as children, spouses, parents, etc.

It is possible to do this by submitting a proof of relationship document, such as a ration card, mark sheet, marriage certificate, passport, etc., stating the applicant’s name, the HOF’s name, and the nature of their relationship, and having the HOF authenticate the document using an OTP. UIDAI allows the resident to submit a self-declaration by the HOF in the UIDAI-required format if even the Proof of Relationship document is not readily available.

Millions of people will benefit from this facility as people relocate to new cities and towns across the nation for a variety of reasons. This option would be available in addition to the current address update option using any legitimate Proof of Address document as specified by UIDAI. Any resident who is over 18 can participate in this process and become a HOF by providing his or her address to family members.

A resident can select this option when attempting to update their address online in the “My Aadhaar” portal. The resident can then enter the HOF’s Aadhaar number, which will only be validated after that.

In order to protect the HOF’s privacy, no other Aadhaar information will be shown on the screen.

After the HOF’s Aadhaar number has been successfully validated, the resident will need to upload the Proof of Relationship document.

The cost of the service is Rs. 50 per resident. Following a successful transaction, the resident would receive a service request number (SRN), and the HOF would receive an SMS informing them of the address request. The request will be processed if the HOF approves it and provides his or her consent by logging into the My Aadhaar portal within 30 days of the date of receiving the notification.

The request will be closed if the HOF declines to provide her/his address or if she/he does not accept or decline within the allotted 30 days of SRN creation. The resident who used this option to request an address update will receive an SMS notifying them that their request has been denied. The amount will not be returned to the applicant in the event that the request is closed, rejected, or rejected during the process because the HOF was not accepted.
