ICAI Introduces Major UDIN Updates: Audit Ceiling, Mobile App and Enhanced Validations
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has recently made several new updates to the Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN) system. The main objective of introducing these changes is to make things more transparent and ensure better compliance. The following are the main changes:
Audit Ceiling Implementation
Starting April 1, 2026, there will be a strict limit on the number of tax audits each member can do. Every member will be allowed to complete only up to 60 tax audits, and this rule will be monitored through the UDIN portal to ensure no one exceeds the limit.
UDIN Mobile APP
The ICAI released the UDIN mobile app on February 6, 2026, for both Android and iPhone users. The UDIN Mobile app allows ICAI members to create and check UDIN numbers easily from their phones, anytime and anywhere.
Field-Level Validations
The ICAI has made new field-level checks while generating UDIN for GST and Tax Audit reports. These checks will make sure that the entered details follow important rules, such as turnover limits, cash transaction percentages, and requirements related to sections such as 44AD, 44ADA, 44AE, 44BBB, Cash Criteria and more.
The main purpose of new field-level validation is to prevent errors, ensure proper compliance, and make the UDIN process more accurate and reliable.
