IT Dept. Slaps a Rs.14 Cr Income Tax Notice to Bihar daily wage labourer
A daily wage labourer in Bihar who earns between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 per month was shocked when he received an income tax notice for Rs 14 crore at his home in Rohtas.
He received a notification from the Income Tax Department asking him to pay Rs 14 crore in return. The labourer identified as Manoj Yadav. He claimed that even if he sold everything he owned, he wouldn’t be able to pay the amount.
The official stated that on Saturday, a department team handed a notice demanding the payment of Rs.14 crore in income tax to Manoj Yadav, a labourer and inhabitant of Kargahar village.
His bank records allegedly show transactions of crores of rupees, which renders him liable for paying income tax, according to the officials.
He was shocked when he saw the notice. During interrogation, he testified to being a daily wage labourer and that he would still not be able to pay the tax, even if he sold all of his possessions.
Manoj also disclosed that he worked in Delhi and other states and had provided his PAN card and Aadhaar card to open a bank account. He believes that someone must have exploited his documents to conduct fraud using them.
Officials from the income tax department eventually came to the conclusion that he had not engaged in fraud and accepted his return.
