Kerala GST Department massive raid in Thrissur; Seized 120 kg of Unaccounted Gold
The Kerala Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department seized unaccounted gold of 120 kgs in a large operation targeting gold jewellery manufacturing companies in Thrissur, known for its gold trade.
This operation known as Torre del Oro, is one of the major operations in the state. It began on Wednesday evening and continued throughout Thursday, with over 700 officers inspecting around 78 locations, including both manufacturing facilities and jewellers’ houses throughout the district of central Kerala.
According to official reports, officials discovered serious irregularities in billing and the process of taxation, therefore they seized the gold.
The massive raids were conducted under the direction of GST Special Commissioner Abraham Renn S.
According to sources, in order to maintain secrecy, officials from throughout the state were summoned to Thrissur under the guise of a training course and transported to various areas in busses under the banner “study tour.” Dinesh Kumar, the State GST Intelligence Deputy Commissioner, told the media that the Torre del Oro operation would continue.
