MCA appoints Deepti Gaur Mukerjee as the Chairperson of IEPFA

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has appointed Smt. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee as the Chairperson of the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA).

The central government confirmed her appointment with an official notification published in the Gazette of India. According to the notice, Smt. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee will begin her duties as Chairperson on the date she enters office. Smt. Mukerjee’s appointment is in accordance with the provisions under Sections 125(5) and 125(6) of the Companies Act, 2013, along with relevant rules.

She will serve in an ex officio capacity, which means she has authority because of her position in the government. Her appointment replaces the prior listing for the Chairperson, and Mukerjee’s name is now shown under serial number 1.

Her appointment is made pursuant to the powers conferred by sub-sections (5) and (6) of Section 125 of the Companies Act of 2013, and in accordance with Rules 5 and 7 of the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (Appointment of Chairperson and Members, holding of meetings, and provision for offices and officers) Rules, 2016.

The IEPFA was founded to improve investor education and protection, with a focus on unclaimed dividends and other uncollected investor funds. The authority is also in charge of ensuring that unclaimed money is either returned to their rightful investors or properly maintained.

In August 2024, Smt. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee was appointed Secretary to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, following Manoj Govil, who became Expenditure Secretary. Mukerjee was the National Health Authority’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) before taking her current position. She is a 1993 batch IAS officer from Madhya Pradesh cadre who offers substantial administrative expertise and leadership to her current job as Chairperson of the IEPFA.
