MCA Appoints Samir Ashwin Vakil as Director of Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SIFO)

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has announced the appointment of Shri Samir Ashwin Vakil as the Director of the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) via issuing a Notification.

The Notification Read as Follows:

In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of section 211 of the Companies Act, 2013 (18 of 2013), the Central Government hereby appoints Shri Samir Ashwin Vakil as the Director in the Serious Fraud Investigation Office under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, with effect from the forenoon of 22nd August 2024, for a period of five years up to 21st August 2029 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The tenure of Samir Ashwin Vakil began on August 22, 2024, and is set to last five years, concluding on August 21, 2029, unless amended by further government directives.

Samir Ashwin Vakil is a 1998-batch Indian Revenue Service officer (Income Tax). His professional background includes financial oversight, tax administration, and regulatory compliance.

He has lately been appointed as the Director of the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), a leading multidisciplinary body within India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs. It was created on July 2, 2003, and granted statutory status under the Companies Act of 2013.

As director of the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), he is assisted by Additional Directors, Joint Directors, and a network of specialized divisions, which include forensic analysts, financial experts, and legal advisors. The head office is in New Delhi, with regional offices in major cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

The SFIO conducts thorough investigations of corporate fraud based on government agency complaints, company special resolutions, public interest concerns, or requests from other governmental entities.
