MP GST Raids 28 PAAN Shops: Major Sale Discrepancies found

The State Goods and Services Tax Department(SGST) raided 28 locations of a paan store chain in Indore on Wednesday, suspecting tax evasion and income suppression.

The department’s inquiry revealed that the corporation was evading taxes by concealing sales and purchase information.

The raids were part of the SGST department’s long-running investigation against the firm that runs paan shops and restaurants in the city and neighbouring regions of Madhya Pradesh. The investigation team detected around 12 unregistered firms, as well as discrepancies in sales data.

“The firm did not reveal its genuine turnover, and there were discrepancies in the sales records. Many outlets of the paan store business were discovered to be unregistered with the GST administration. The investigation discovered that the company had been hiding sales and purchase information in order to avoid paying the necessary taxes. This is a serious crime and those found guilty will face commensurate consequences,” stated a senior SGST official.

As many as 17 SGST teams searched the firm’s shops and restaurants, seizing papers from the premises. The team’s investigation is anticipated to last one or two days.
