Hyderabad Cybercrime police have arrested two men for allegedly collecting 60 to 70 bank accounts from people and supplying them to cyber fraudsters. Police said around 450 cases have been registered across India in connection with the frauds, involving transactions worth Rs 60 crore to Rs 70 crore.

The accused have been identified as Gumma Ramesh (39) and Mudale Anil (19), both residents of Ramanthapur. They were arrested on October 8 following a tip-off, according to a police press note. Two mobile phones were seized from them.

Police said Ramesh, who earlier lived in Karnataka’s Bidar district, moved to Hyderabad with his family due to financial problems and settled in Ramanthapur. He worked as a driver for Rapido and Uber using a rented car, during which he allegedly came into contact with cyber fraudsters.

Ramesh and another accused who is currently absconding allegedly approached students, delivery workers and other people in and around Ramanthapur. They offered commissions in exchange for their bank accounts and SIM cards.

The accused allegedly collected bank passbooks, debit cards, internet banking details and SIM cards from these people and sent them by courier to their associates in Haryana. Police suspect these accounts and SIM cards were used to carry out cyber frauds targeting hundreds of victims.
