Tata Consumer Products Receives Rs 269.29 Crore Income Tax Demand for FY19
The Tata Consumer Products Limited, a major Indian Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) company, part of the Tata Group, recently issued a disclosure, addressed to the BSE Limited, the National Stock Exchange of India Limited and the Calcutta Stock Exchange Limited, regarding a receipt of demand order.
The disclosure was made by Tata Consumer Products Limited under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The Company added that it has received an Intimation under section 143(1) of the Income-tax Act, 1961 from the Centralized Processing Center, Income-tax Department, Bengaluru, on January 5, 2026, stating that it has to pay Rs. 26,929,498,600, including interest, for the financial year 2018-19.
However, after checking the notice, the Company found that this large tax demand has mainly been raised because the tax department has not given credit for taxes that the Company has already paid. These include advance tax, tax deducted at source (TDS), foreign taxes paid, and dividend distribution tax.
However, the company believes that the demand order is pointless and has requested rectification on receipt of the order. The company also believes that after rectification the demand would be deleted.
The company also added that there is no significant impact on financial, operational or other activities of the Company.
