Vedanta Receives GST Penalty Order of Rs 54.61 Crore from Ranchi Tax Office

Vedanta Limited, a Multinational Mining Company, has informed about the receipt of a GST order to its subsidiary company, ESL (Electrosteel Steels Limited), imposing a heavy penalty along with a tax demand and interest.

As per the disclosure made by the company under Regulation 30 of SEBI Listing Regulations, ESL has received an order from the Joint Commissioner of CGST & CX, Headquarters Ranchi, levying a penalty of Rs 54,61,78,958 along with GST demand and applicable interest. The order was issued on December 29, 2025, and is related to GST Payment on several financial incomes and Input Tax Credit (ITC) Reversal on Defaulting Vendors for Financial Year 2018-19 to FY 2022-23.

The company has clearly mentioned that the order has no financial impact. Further, it has decided to file an appeal challenging the order before the appellate authorities, hoping for a favourable outcome.
