The contract duration is initially six months, which can be extended with mutual consent. The location of duty for each position is different. For Consultant Ophthalmologist, the location is VSSC Colony Health Centre, Pallithura, Thiruvananthapuram. For Consultant Pediatricians, the location is VSSC Colony Health Centre, Pallithura, Thiruvananthapuram, and for Consultant Dermatologists, the location is VSSC Poly Clinic, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram.
As per VSSC Recruitment 2023 official notification, the essential qualifications for Consultant Ophthalmologist, Consultant Pediatrician, and Consultant Dermatologist positions include an MBBS degree with permanent Medical Council Registration and a minimum of two years of experience after post-graduation. For Consultant Ophthalmologist, an MS/DNB degree or PG Diploma in Ophthalmology with additional qualification registration in Medical Council is required. For Consultant Pediatrician, an MD/DNB in Paediatrics or PG Diploma in Paediatrics with additional qualification registration in Medical Council is required. For Consultant Dermatologist, an MD/DNB in Dermatology or PG Diploma in Dermatology with additional qualification registration in Medical Council is required. The age limit for all three positions is less than 60 years. The selection mode is a personal interview, and the remuneration varies based on the qualification and experience of the candidate. The candidate should have an MS/DNB (Ophthalmology) or PG Diploma in Ophthalmology with the registration of additional qualifications in the Medical Council.
For the position of Consultant Paediatrician, the essential qualifications are an MBBS degree with permanent Medical Council Registration and a minimum of two years of experience after post-graduate qualification in Paediatrics. The candidate should have an MD/DNB Paediatrics or PG Diploma in Paediatrics with the registration of additional qualification in the Medical Council.
For the position of Consultant Dermatologist, the essential qualifications are an MBBS degree with permanent Medical Council Registration and a minimum of two years of experience after post-graduate qualification in Dermatology. The candidate should have an MD/DNB Dermatology or PG Diploma in Dermatology with the registration of additional qualification in the Medical Council.

As per VSSC Recruitment 2023 official notification, the remuneration for Consultant Ophthalmologist and Consultant Dermatologist is between Rs. 4000 to Rs. 7500 per visit for consultations up to 20 patients. An additional amount of Rs. 200 per consultation is payable to above 20 patients up to a ceiling of a total amount of Rs. 7500. For Consultant Paediatricians, the remuneration is between Rs. 3000 to Rs. 5000 per visit for consultations up to 20 patients. An additional amount of Rs. 150 per consultation is payable to above 20 patients up to a ceiling of a total amount of Rs. 5000.
