GST officials raided the premises of a Sambalpur-based garments shop owned by two people on Friday, over an allegation of tax evasion.

A 15-member GST team, along with police, raided the traders’s premises who deal in wholesale readymade clothing near the city’s Bada Bazaar.

During the raid, officials discovered that the firm owners owned another entity. After receiving authorization for the second entity, officials examined the records of both businesses.

A GST officer stated that the traders used to buy readymade clothing from neighbouring states and sell them throughout the western Odisha area.

“We’re looking through the files and confiscating any documents that raise suspicion. There are a few missing documents, for which we have issued spot summons to business owners. All suspicious documents will be seized and analyzed following the raid,” he stated.

The investigation is still underway.
