GST Dept. with ATS Conducts Search at 205 Premises; Discovered Rs.1200 crore Credit Scam
The Gujarat State Goods and Service Tax (GST) conducted searches on sunday at more than 205 locations owned by 115 businesses in a joint operation with the Anti-Terrorist Squad and Crime Branch. 91 people were also questioned about an alleged Rs 1,200 crore credit scam.
A few GST officers were also being questioned by the search teams for their alleged involvement as the search has been ongoing since Saturday morning.
According to sources, searches were being conducted concurrently in 14 districts. These businesses dealt with iron rods, chemicals, and scrap metal. Search teams are concerned that if officials had not been involved, a large-scale scam would not have persisted for as long. These companies were producing phoney bills, and the scam has allegedly been ongoing for the past six months in Ahmedabad, Surat, Bhavnagar, and Vadodara.
The Gujarat ATS had earlier on October 22 revealed this fraudulent international scheme and detained four people in Ahmedabad’s New Naroda neighbourhood for providing Canada seekers with phoney passports and visas.
