Breaking News: Finance Bill 2023 receives President’s assent

Indian President Droupadi Murmu gave his assent to the Finance Bill 2023 and the Appropriation Bill.

The Finance Bill was passed with 50+ amendments. After the assent, the entire Union Budget exercise for 2023-24 now stands completed.

Earlier,  Finance Bill 2023 was passed in Rajya Sabha. Amid the opposition’s demand of a JPC probe in the Adani issue, the Rajya Sabha passed the Finance Bill and The Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation (No 2) Bill, 2023.

The Rajya Sabha had been declared that the Bill “considered and returned.” There are up to 50+ amendments in the Finance Bill 2023, which was approved by voice vote in the Lok Sabha. Among the most significant are increases in the securities transaction tax (STT) on options and futures of 23.5% and 25%, respectively.
