The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has achieved a breakthrough in countering drug trafficking with the apprehension of an Indian passenger arriving via Flight no. ET 640 from Addis Ababa to Mumbai on August 18, 2023.

DRI officials discovered roughly 1496 grammes of cocaine in the suspect’s suitcase, valued at approximately Rs. 15 crore. Following extensive interrogation and surveillance, DRI investigators successfully apprehended the intended recipient of the illegal narcotics in a perfectly organised operation. The receiver, a female Ugandan national, was apprehended. She was caught in the Navi Mumbai neighbourhood of Vashi.

According to the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985, both the accused carrier and the recipient are under arrest. They have been remanded in jail pending additional legal processes.
