1,344 GST defaulters found in Punjab under Bill Scheme

The ‘Bill Liao Inaam Pao‘ scheme was launched by the Aam Aadmi Party government last year, has begun to show results. With this scheme, the state government detected and issued notices to 1,344 Goods and Services Tax defaulters.

The scheme was introduced in August of last year. It aims to increase GST income in the state by instilling a culture in which consumers demand bills from vendors, pushing them to submit bills and pay taxes on these sales.

The consumers then upload these bills to the state government’s mobile application. This acts as a database for the GST Department, which discovers instances of tax evasion based on bills submitted by consumers.

These consumers who upload their bills have the opportunity to participate in a monthly lucky draw. Ten lucky winners are chosen in each taxation district and granted prizes equivalent to five times the taxable value of the goods or services shown in the bill, with a maximum of Rs.10,000. Prizes worth Rs.42 lakh have been given between September and December, it is learnt.
