CBI arrests Chief Office Superintendent of Western Railway for accepting Bribe of Rs.50000
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Chief Office Superintendent, DRM Office, Maharashtra Western Railway for accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 from a complainant (representative of a private company).
The CBI filed a case against the accused on claims that he demanded a bribe from the complainant for processing a private company’s bills. It was reported that the company is a frequent supplier to Western Railways and used to submit bills for payment in exchange for products supplied.
It was also said that the complainant (a representative of the company) used to follow up on behalf of the company with Western Railways’ Accounts Department to ensure that bills were passed and paid on time. It was reported that the aforementioned company recently delivered materials to Western Railway and submitted three bills totalling Rs.4.80 crore (approx.) for the products supplied.
It was further alleged that the accused was a processing officer at the DRM Office’s Accounts Section. When the complainant reportedly sought the said Chief Office Superintendent to process the Bills, the accused wanted a bribe of Rs.100.00 per lakh of the total billed amount of Rs.4.80 crore (approx. Rs. 50,000 as bribe) from the complainant.
The CBI set up a trap and nabbed the accused as he was taking a bribe of Rs. 50,000 in his Mumbai office. Searches were undertaken at two places on the accused’s premises, resulting in the seizure of incriminating documents, etc.
The arrested accused is being produced before the Competent Court in Mumbai. The investigation is continuing.
