GST Officer Caught Red-Handed accepting Bribe for settling GST Matter: Know more
Satendra Bahadur Singh, an administrative officer at the GST office in Gautam Budh Nagar, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Vigilance Department on May 19, 2025, for taking a bribe of Rs. 45,000 allegedly.
The complaint started when the proprietor of M/s Ramatech, a computer-repairing company in Noida’s Salarpur village, received a call on April 29 from one Bhudev. Bhudev informed that the firm’s GST calculations for FY 2016–17 and FY 2017–18 were not up to date, with an arrear of Rs. 4.55 lakh. He threatened legal action unless the arrear was settled and made the complainant know Singh.
At a meeting on May 13, Singh allegedly promised to settle the issue without court proceedings for Rs. 50,000 as a bribe. The figure was brought down to Rs. 45,000 after negotiations. Singh insisted on this amount, he reportedly claimed, assuring that non-payment would lead to the entire dues being demanded.
Refusing to shell out the bribe money, the complainant went to the vigilance department. On the complaint, the vigilance team had laid a trap and arrested Singh when he was accepting the Rs. 45,000 bribe.
The UP Vigilance Department has encouraged citizens to come forward with any instances of bribery committed by public servants, whether gazette or non-gazette, through its anti-corruption helpline at 9454401866.
