Income Tax Officials Raid Pista House, Shadab and Mehfil in Tax Evasion Probe
On Tuesday, Income Tax Officials conducted investigations at prominent restaurant groups, including Pista House and Shadab Hotel, as well as at the residences of the chairman and directors of the Mehfil restaurant chain in Hyderabad.
Income Tax officials raided 15 places, including the house of Mohammed Abdul Mazeed in Rajendranagar and the homes of the company’s directors in the city.
They suspect that a large amount of tax has not been paid for several years. The officials are checking both online and offline sales records, as well as details of how the franchises are run.
The team also carried out searches at the offices of two other biryani restaurant chains Mehfil and Shah Ghouse, in areas like Tolichowki and Shah Ali Banda.
These raids are linked to suspected tax evasion. Officials found differences between what the restaurants showed in their Income Tax returns and what their real income records indicate.
Sources say the management may have hidden some of their logbooks and sales details. Because of this, the officials believe the three well-known restaurant chains may have avoided paying tax worth several crores.
Income Tax teams continued searching at the locations until late Tuesday and are expected to continue their operations on Wednesday as well.
