Srikakulam Gold Loot: Fake GST, Police Officers Steal 800 gm Gold

A group of criminals pretending to be GST and police officers robbed a jewellery shop in Nithyananda Nagar, Palasa-Kasibugga town, Srikakulam district, on Tuesday afternoon, around 12:30 pm.

The shop, Sri Venkateswara Jewellers, has been operating in the area for about 10 years. The owner, K. Ramakrishna, said that six to eight people wearing masks, sunglasses, and caps entered the shop, claiming they were officials conducting a search.

The men did not allow anyone to question them. They handcuffed the owner, threatened the staff with a gun, collected over 800 grams of gold ornaments, and escaped on bikes. After realising that they were fake officers, Ramakrishna immediately informed the Kasibugga police about the robbery.

A police team led by ASP Srinivasa Rao and Inspector Ramakrishna visited the scene along with a clues team and gathered evidence. CCTV footage showed some of the suspects leaving the area wearing masks and caps.

Police carried out vehicle checks in and around Palasa, but have not found any leads yet. Special teams are examining CCTV footage from different locations, and police suspect that an inter-state gang may be involved.
