UIDAI Clarifies Aadhaar Charges: What’s Free and What’s Not
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has recently shared some important information about Aadhaar. Let’s see them to avoid confusion, unnecessary charges and misinformation about Aadhaar services and updates.
1. Making a new Aadhaar card is completely free.
2. Updating photos, fingerprints, and iris scans at 5 to 7 years or 15 to 17 years is free of cost.
3. The normal charge for a biometric update (for 7-15 years & above 18 years) is Rs 125 (all taxes included), but there is a special offer; a biometric update for children in the age group of 7 to 15 years is FREE till 30th September 2026.
4. Updating photos, fingerprints, or irises (even if combined with other updates) costs Rs 125.
5. Using the eKYC / Find Aadhaar service and getting a colour print on A4 paper costs Rs 40.
6. Updating one or more personal details, such as name, address, DOB, etc., costs Rs 75.
7. Updating the address online through the my Aadhaar portal costs Rs 75.
8. Updating documents costs Rs 75 at the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre or through the official Aadhaar portal. Until 14th June 2026, updating documents through the portal is FREE of cost.
The government has made it clear that you are not supposed to pay any fees other than the ones stated above. If any enrolment centre demands any additional charges, you are advised to immediately report the matter through the official complaint portal, i.e., myAadhar.uidai.gov.in.
