Centre Replaces Earlier Wage Code Authority Notifications with New Appointments
The Ministry of Labour and Employment recently shared a notification on May 12, 2026, regarding the appointment of authorities under the Code on Wages, 2019.
The Government of India, using its powers under Section 45(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019, has replaced earlier notifications issued on 17.10.2019 and 21.11.2019 (S.O. Nos. 3729(E), 4225(E), and 4226(E)). However, anything that was already done or not done under the earlier notifications before this change will still remain valid.
Under this new notification, the Central Government has appointed certain officers listed in a table. These officers must be at least of Gazetted rank. They are given the authority to hear and decide claims under the Code on Wages, 2019.
These officers will deal with cases involving employees working in establishments where the Central Government is the appropriate authority. Each officer will handle cases only within the specific area mentioned against their name in the table.
