GSTN Extends E-Way Bill Implementation Date for Ship-To GSTIN and Voluntary Closure Facility

GSTN postpones the implementation of two major E-Way Bill features. The earlier changes were supposed to come into effect from June 15, 2026, but will now come into effect from August 1, 2026.

The decision comes after several representations from businesses, industry bodies, GST Suvidha Providers (GSPs) and ERP service providers. Stakeholders requested further time to implement the required system changes, conduct testing, update master data and validate API and ERP readiness.

The two functionalities affected by this extension are the following:

  • Mandatory capture of “Ship To GSTIN” in Bill-To/Ship-To transactions.
  • Voluntary Closure of E-Way Bill facility.

The GSTN said the extension is provided to ensure a smooth transition and to help taxpayers and technology service providers to prepare well for the new requirements.

Taxpayers, GSPs, ERP vendors, and other stakeholders should ensure all required system updates, testing, and operations are completed in time for the revised implementation date of August 1, 2026.

GSTN further said that both functionalities will be effective from the new date and urged all stakeholders to take advantage of the extended timeline for readiness and compliance.
