CBSE Class 12th Syllabus 2023-24: As the academic session 2022-23 is now finished with the completion of board examinations, the academic session 2023-24 has formally begun. At the beginning of this new session, the CBSE released the detailed syllabus for the class 12th board exams to be conducted in 2024. The CBSE published the detailed syllabus for all streams and every subject of class 12th on its official website. Students who will be appearing for the board exam in the 2023-24 session should immediately go through the entire syllabus.
Releasing the syllabus early gives students ample time to prepare their complete academic syllabus wisely. The CBSE class 12th board exams, also known as senior secondary exams, are tough. The syllabus of the class 12th is generally much more comprehensive and voluminous than the secondary classes. So it is essential to study from the beginning of the academic year to complete the entire syllabus on time. The official syllabus will help students to prioritize the topics according to their weightage in the exam. It will help students formulate a better strategy for scoring better marks in the board exams.
Students starting a new academic year can now refer to the most recent syllabus and curriculum for information on the whole course structure, course contents, any additions or deletions of topics from the curriculum, question paper design, types of questions, project work details, and unit-wise weightage of marks. With the CBSE Board releasing the 2023-24 curriculum early in the academic year, students and teachers will have plenty of time to thoroughly prepare for the upcoming session’s annual board exams.
The CBSE released the syllabus for all streams and all subjects (compulsory and elective) of the class 12th. The CBSE curriculum is the foundation of education for millions of Indian students studying nationwide. As a result, it is designed to demonstrate India’s unified vision of education, which includes local, national, and global requirements and expectations. It is intended to provide students with chances to attain excellence in learning as outlined in the NEP, also known as the National Education Policy 2020.
After several expert recommendations, the CBSE has divided the entire course structure for class 12th into seven major learning areas. These seven major curriculum areas are Languages, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences, Skill Subjects, General Studies, and Health and Physical Education. These curriculum areas are broadly classified into electives and compulsory areas as tabulated below:
The Subjects for CBSE class 12th have been divided into four core groups. The four core groups are mentioned below:
I) Group L: Group L consists of Hindi, English, and other regional languages. Students will have to choose at least one language subject from this group.
II) Group A: This group contains the academic electives subjects like Political Science, Accountancy, Sociology, and many more.
III) Group S: Group S contains a list of skill subjects. The skill electives will impart skill education to the students which are highly desirable in the modern world. These are 21st-century skill-enhancing subjects like Web Applications, Entrepreneurship, Graphics, and others.
IV) Internal Assessment Subjects: This group contains three subjects, namely Health and Physical Education, Work Experience, and General Studies. Subjects of this group are compulsory and every regular student will have to opt for these subjects. Board exams will not be conducted for these subjects. The school will conduct an internal assessment and based on that assessment, marks will be awarded to each student.
The detailed combination of subjects that a student can choose has been mentioned in the information brochure (attached below)
