Centre Notifies Rs 25,000 Monthly Wage Ceiling for Chapter III of Code on Social Security, 2020:

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified a Rs 25,000 monthly wage ceiling for Chapter III of the Code on Social Security, 2020, effective from September 17, 2026.
Revised Wage Ceiling Effective from September 17

The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has notified a monthly wage ceiling of Rs 25,000 for the purposes of Chapter III of the Code on Social Security, 2020, vide Notification No. S.O. 5109(E), dated September 17, 2026. The new wage ceiling has come into effect from the date of publication of the notification in the Official Gazette, i.e., from September 17, 2026.
The notification has been issued under clause (89) of Section 2 of the Code on Social Security, 2020. Accordingly, wages up to Rs 25,000 per month will be considered for determining the applicability of the provisions covered under Chapter III of the Code.
The latest notification also supersedes the earlier notification issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment vide S.O. 2702(E) dated May 29, 2026. However, any actions already taken or matters already completed under the previous notification before its supersession will remain unaffected.
The official notification states that "in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (89) of section 2 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 (36 of 2020) and in supersession of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, number S.O. 2702(E) dated 29th May 2026, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Central Government hereby notifies rupees twentyfive thousand (₹25,000) per month as the wage ceiling for the purposes of Chapter III of the said Code, with effect from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette."
